Deep in the woods at Havenroot, on trails cut by organizer Jesse Cargil and a volunteer crew, Mens Pro came down to a margin you could blink and miss. Two heats, downhill Friday and uphill Saturday, best time from each combined. Joshua Fagerness won it in 10:11.700 on the KingSong F18, 5.5 seconds ahead of Zac Darnell, at the same venue where he finished fifth two years ago. Darnell took a heat off him Saturday and briefly held the lead by one second before Fagerness answered.
Behind them, Justin Davis dug deep on the uphill to reclaim third from Jace Cundiff, a New Mexico newcomer who finished 1.4 seconds off the podium in his first race ever. Fifteen-year-old Kyler Brown of Eugene won Teen Boys on a borrowed F18 with a time that would have slotted him mid-pack in Pro. And Lauren Ford, who learned to ride an EUC at this event a year ago, came back on the InMotion V14 Pro and won Womens Pro. Between heats: axe throwing, pie eating contests, raft battles, and a pull-up competition.

He called Fagerness the champion back in March. Now he has to beat him. Davis held third at NWEF by 1.4 seconds, underfed, without his family in the pits, on a Begode X-Way that overheated during the best run of his weekend. First-timer Jace Cundiff spent two days trying to shake him loose and couldn't.

Joshua Fagerness holds the Mens Pro Off-Road lead at 0.00 points, with Zac Darnell (15.55) and Justin Davis (19.39) chasing. Davis still owns Mens Pro Enduro. Lauren Ford leads Womens Pro Off-Road and Teen Girls is led by Nat Phillips while Archer Chew tops Teen Boys after backing up his season with a second at NWEF. Best two results per format count, so Bentonville can still shake all of this up.
